Sheldon B. Lubar

Sheldon LubarWhitefish Bay High School’s Lubar Stadium and its adjoining athletic fields were made possible through a generous $500,00 gift by alumnus Sheldon B. Lubar to a community-wide renovation campaign. in 2007.

Lubar, who is founder and chairman of the private investment and capital management firm Lubar & Co., is undoubtedly one of Wisconsin’s most successful entrepreneurs and philanthropists. He gratefully credits the education he received at Whitefish Bay High School for his success in both business and public service, which included governmental appointments under three U.S. Presidents.

After graduating from Bay in 1947, Sheldon flourished at the University of Wisconsin Madison where he received degrees in Business Administration and Law. A passionate advocate for education, he was a member of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, and ultimately served as its president from 1996–1998.

When asked about the motivation behind his gift, Lubar reflected fondly on his time at Whitefish Bay High School, and his desire to give back to a community that had treated him so warmly. Even more, he viewed the new stadium as a way to enrich the lives of future students.

“It’s a part of the school’s entire experience, ” Lubar told Whitefish Bay High School’s Tower Times. “Sports, arts, education, it all adds to the experience.”

Lubar was inducted into the Whitefish Bay Athletic Hall of Fame at its inaugural ceremony in 2012.
