The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes dropped their first game of the season on Friday night, falling 48-10 to the Homestead Highlanders. The loss moves them to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the North Shore Conference.
The Highlanders went down the field after receiving the opening kick to grab an early lead. They would score again after forcing a quick 3-and-out against the Dukes offense to give themselves a 13-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Bay was able to put together an 80-yard drive on their next possession which ended with Harry Bortolotti fighting his way into the endzone from the 5 to cut the deficit to 6.
Homestead was able to force an interception on the Dukes drive and turn it into points, going up 20-7 in the second quarter before a David Kleiner field goal made it 20-10. The Highlanders took a 27-10 lead into the break, however, as they found the endzone again just before the half.
It was all Highlanders in the second half as their defense shutout the Dukes and scored twice, once on an interception and the other on a fumble recovery. Chase Wolter eclipsed the 100-yard mark with 109 yards on 13 completions. Bortolotti rushed 21 times for 100 yards.
Senior linebacker John Dorsey led the Blue Dukes defensively with 9 total tackles (3 solo).
