The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes secured a spot in the 2019 WIAA State Tournament with a convincing 21-10 win over the Singer Owls on Friday night.

After a scoreless, hard hitting 1st quarter, Slinger put itself on the board early in the 2nd quarter when QB Logan Homberg ran in a 6 yard TD. The Owls lead wouldn’t last long. Only minutes later, Dukes QB Jack Stecker answered by connecting with WR Jayden Jackson for a 41 yard TD to even the score 7-7. Slinger inched ahead at the five minute mark with a 32 yard field goal, but the Dukes rallied back with a 3 yard TD by RB Drew Garcia to bring the score to 14-10 with just over a minute left in the half.

The Dukes held their lead in the 3rd quarter thanks to standout play by the Dukes D. The Dukes offense, however, was hardly dormant. Stecker consistently moved the Dukes down the field with short yard rushes by Garcia and RB Nigel Cheeks, who put up 70 yards on 10 carries.

The 4th quarter was a pins and needles experience for Dukes fans until Stecker hit Jackson again for a 64 yard TD with only two minutes left on the clock. Kicker Michael Kauffman iced the cake to make it 21-10.

The Dukes D made certain that 21-10 would become the final score by frustrating every attempt by Homberg to move the Owls down the field. With only 57 seconds left in the game, DL Cullen Starker punctuated the Dukes win by sending him to the turf with a crushing sack.
