On the heals of their 14-7 loss to Slinger, the Blue Dukes were looking for some magic against Port Washington in their home opener, but came up short in a hard fought 8-15 loss at Lubar Stadium on Friday night.
After a scoreless 1st quarter, Port Washington’s WR/FS Jacob Lippe ran back a 61 yard touchdown to put the Pirates on the board 7-0 at 3:58 into the 2nd quarter.
The Dukes wouldn’t answer the Pirates’ first strike until the 11:39 mark in the 3rd quarter when RB/DB Patrick Nau ran in a 53-yard touchdown, adding to his 150 yards rushing on the night. QB Jack Stecker, who only completed 4 passes for 30 yards on 15 attempts, went to Nau again for the 2 point conversion to push the Dukes ahead 8-7.
The Pirates rallied back during the remainder of the 3rd quarter. QB Adam Baierl connected with RB/WR/DB Mitchell Niemeyer for a 11-yard TD with 2:35 remaining. Niemeyer added to the Pirates’ drive with a 2-point conversion to put Port Washington ahead 15-8.
The Dukes battled the Pirates throughout the 4th quarter, freezing their 15-8 lead in place.
Next Up: The Dukes travel on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018 to face the West Bend West Spartans at 7:00 p.m.
