Dukes Fall to Hartford Union 28-7
- Updated: October 15, 2017
A hard rain fell upon the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes undefeated season on Friday night with a heartbreaking loss to Hartford Union Orioles 28-7.
Nevertheless, the Dukes 8-1 record was more than enough for them to share the North Shore Conference title with Homestead, who beat Slinger on Friday night 15-14.
Hamstrung by light rain and slippery turf, the Dukes offense struggled against the Orioles. QB Cade Garcia connected with WR Alex Anthony for the Dukes only touchdown in the first quarter. Garcia managed only 156 yards passing on 11 of 22 attempts, and threw three interceptions.
The Dukes normally powerful ground game, led by RB/LB Patrick Nau and RB/DB Bo Bassindale, was stopped cold by Hartford Union’s aggressive defense, which held the Dukes to 30 yards total rushing for the night with three turnovers.
Bay’s defense, which seemed to thrive under wet conditions against the Cedarburg Bulldogs only a week before, failed to contain the Orioles’ offense. QB Tristan Bradley steadily moved the ball down the field the entire game, and connected with FS/WR Jason Patterson for a 94 yard third quarter touchdown. Adding insult to injury, TE/RB Logan Broker penetrated the Dukes D late in the game and ran in a 57 yard touchdown.
Next Up: The Dukes begin the WIAA playoffs at Lubar Stadium against Milwaukee Lutheran on Oct. 20, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
