Bulldogs Crush Dukes

The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes suffered their second consecutive crushing on Friday night, falling to the Cedarburg Bulldogs 56-21. The loss drops the Dukes to 3-2 on the year and 1-2 in North Shore Conference play with 4 games remaining.

The Dukes came out hot and drove 80-yards on their opening possession to grab a 7-0 led just 4 minutes and 18 seconds into the game. Chase Wolter and Marcus Webb connected for a pair of catch-and-runs early in the drive before the Dukes pounded the rock into the red zone. Facing a 3rd-and-7 from the 9, Harry Bortolotti took a carry to the right side and plowed his way into the endzone.

The Bulldogs would tie the game with 54 seconds left in the opening quarter, but Bay was able to answer the call and regain the lead a few plays later. A 15-yard run by Bortolotti followed by a 43-yard scamper by Tosin Kolawale had the Dukes knocking on the door again. On the first play of the 2nd quarter, Bortolotti went to the right side again for a 10-yard touchdown run. It was his second of three rushing touchdowns on that night as he rushed 23 times for 197 yards to pace a Dukes ground game that racked up 280 yards on 34 carries.

The 14-7 lead would not last long as Cedarburg tied it up just over 3 minutes later, and it was all Bulldogs for the remainder of the night. They took a 21-14 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half, and were able to punch it in again two minutes later for a 28-14 lead going into the break.

A kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half made it 35-14 in the Bulldogs favor, and before the third quarter would end they built a commanding 49-14 lead.

Bortolotti lead the Dukes defense with 7 total tackles (6 solo) while Gator McCarthy and John Dorsey had 6 and 5, respectively. Webb hauled in an interception to prevent the Bulldogs from finding the endzone again right before halftime.
