Owls Fly Over Dukes
- Updated: September 29, 2024
The Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes lost their third straight game, 42-7, to the Slinger Owls. The Dukes fought hard and kept it competitive in the first half before the Owls ultimately pulled away after the break. The Blue Dukes now sit at 3-3 (1-3) with three games remaining on the schedule.
The Owls struck first after forcing an interception on the Blue Dukes’ second play from scrimmage. A couple plays later they had a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game. The score would remain there for the remainder of the first quarter as the defense of both teams held strong.
Bay tied it up at 7 at the 8:46 mark in the second quarter. Facing a 3rd-and-3 from their own 41, senior running back Harry Bortolotti took a handoff and followed linemen PJ Mahoney and Kaben Ziegler around the right edge for a 53-yard scamper. Slinger lined up offsides on the next play to push the ball closer to the goal line, and then Bortolotti finished off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run up the middle.
The tie would not last long, as the Owls returned the ensuing kickoff 96-yards for a touchdown. They would score again just over two minutes later to grab a 20-7 halftime lead.
A stingy Owls defense kept the Dukes off the scoreboard in the second half while being able to add three more scores offensively.
